I bought the Fishpond Thunderhead Submersible Lumbar Pack Small, used it a couple of times. [dont think they make this color anymore]
Then my wish list started growing, i wish i could carry water in this thing (i have to buy a waterbottle holder),
or i wish it had more organizers, or a bit more space etc etc. zipper was a PITA to deal with [i understand it due to being making it waterproof and submersible], nevertheless it is a two hand operation to open or close the zipper [atleast for me].

Then I went and bought a Filson Tin Cloth Fishing Pack. this thing is a beast. it has everything i was looking for, lots of room, compartments, webbings [to attach stuff]. even comes with a small working station where i can rest my fly box, comes in handy when i am in the middle of stream and changing flies. i haven't touched fishpond since then.

I’ll never use anything that’s not water proof again. One rainy day or fall into the water and you’re drying every single fly, leader, tippet spool, split shot container and God knows what else for 2-3 days. Rusty hooks don’t catch fish

filson tin cloth is waxed and water resistant, i have used filson jackets and bags in heavy rain, no issues at all.

i have not fallen into water, knock on wood.

Nice pack, I like the drop down and compact design. I'm glad to see Filson is still making fishing gear. Recently bought one of their rain jackets on sale. Was shocked how it compared to my decades-old Filson coat, tore the sleeve on a minor mishap after a year of limited use.

Nocktavius has it right, though. Not having to fret over water logged gear is a big plus.

But those zippers and flaps aren't ... won't take much rain or water immersion to penetrate the zipper and leak around that flap, I think.

Immersion definitely NO, light to moderate rain yes [stuff inside the bag stayed pretty dry]. heavy rain probably not and at this point i am probably out of the water lol.

the front section of the bag and bottle holders has drain holes if water gets in there,[this area is definitely prone to water collection even in light rain]. i usually dont put stuff in this section that can soak water in.

I own a fishpond Waterdance pro. 2 water bottle holders and I've added velcro to my fly boxes and they fit well in the drop down pocket.

love the shoulder pad, i just bought this part from fishpond and attached to my filson fishing pack 🙂

I got a Filson strap vest this year that I a going to partner with my Richardson box when I receive it. Well made kit
