A quick review on a rod I picked up a few weeks ago. I’ve been looking for a 9’6” 6wt as a SMB/steelhead rod. Looking at other rods, I kept going back to the Legacy. I read all the reviews, some good, some not so much, but since I already have 4 TFO rods, I decided to give it a whirl. TFO says to team it with MPX line. Sierra had GPX on sale so I figured that was close enough. Using the GPX and an older Pflueger Tion reel, it balanced nice, and though a little stiffer than my Blue Ribbon (which I expected) was a really good caster. Step 2 was putting on a Liquid S reel with RIO Avid Bass line. Down side is the lighter reel makes it feel a little tip heavy. Upside, that thing casts amazing! Caught numerous bass over the last week with it and can say I’m very happy with it. Stiffer action than the 6wt BR, but not as heavy and casts nicer than my 7wt Pro 2. Added plus is the extra 6” gets me out in front of the bow in my canoe and gives me that little extra to keep the back cast out of the water. I’ll wait tilll fall and put the GPX back on for Steelhead, but I think I found a winner.
