A nod to Vince Marinaro - only with updated “Modern” materials - classic Mustad 94840 #14, Grizzly Spade hackle tail fibers, very slightly pink synthetic dubbing with a pronounced “ball” shaped thorax, and a few wisps of poly yarn fashioned onto a wing. Vintage Metz #1 Grizzly hackle wound in the “X” style as in Vince’s book - a big difference is the placement of the wing - in this fly, wing and hackle are too far forward to accurately show the traditional thorax dry style - his designs were to purposely have the fly leaning forward on the surface tension - supported by the “x” wound hackles. If you haven’t read his Modern Dry Fly Code, you should! It is wealth of knowledge regarding fly design, spotting fish, and PRESENTATION of artificial dry flies in challenging spring creek settings - a must read!
