I recently spent two days fishing my favorite brookie stream hoping to capitalize on the nice weather. The primary goal was to catch my first dry fly trout of the year, but catching bigger fish and decent numbers was also a main focus.

The dry fly fishing turned out to be pretty bad. I had a combined total of about 5 strikes on top between the two days and a total of 2 small brookies landed. But luckily the fish were willing to feed subsurface and I had multiple trout eagerly chasing/attacking the squirmy wormy I used as a dropper in nearly every hole. Between the two days I landed 40 fish, around 20 on both days. 3 of the fish were in the 8.75-9inch range, which was also exceptional for this particular creek

Some of the fish were unusually colorful for this time of year and also for the creek I was fishing. In this particular stream the brookies are almost always very dull and have a grayish/blue hue, even the males don’t get super colorful during the spawn. Despite this, I caught some of the prettiest Brookies I’ve ever seen.

I’m pretty sure there was a similar thread last year where people were sharing pictures of their prettiest wild trout, but it would be cool to see some photos of some other good looking fish again. So feel free to post your photos below, and good luck fishing this spring!
