Whenever the ice goes off, you’re in business. Likewise for muskellunge. Pike often spawn in the shallows while there is still some surface ice and certainly do so at ice out. Additionally, when the ice goes off mky spend time cruising at the surface. I don’t know why, but could be just because the sun is providing a slightly warmer micro-climate. Feb is a great month for fishing at the mouths of larger tribs to mky rivers.
