Blue Herron

I experienced this on a NC freestone a long while back. That SOB just kept going further upstream as I went, spooking every pool/run along it's way before I could fish them. I had to climb halfway up a mountain and parallel the stream for several hundred yards to get upstream of him. Frustrating to say the least.
My father-in-law had a friend who was fond of saying, "Every trout fisherman should have a blue heron pelt nailed to the barn door." Our crew is not dedicated to that sentiment. I like to see all the birdies while I'm fishing - including the little green heron that was unable to choke down a trout in about five attempts until I stopped watching him and went back to fishing.

Herons are such a PITA as are all the Mergansers. Those Mergansers really f*^k up small stream fishing when they fly upstream ahead of you. They don't just fly like a heron they have to paddle across the water for 30 yds. before they take flight.

Ever see a group of Mergansers work together to herd minnows and trout into a cove or a place where they can trap them? I've seen it several times.
