Headed up to Cowans Gap SP next weekend. I saw they have a nice little stocker creek running through there. I was wondering if it was worth taking my gear or not?

The stream is meh. It’s kind of one of those “straight shot” streams as I call them. Doesn’t make a lot of bends or corner pool habitat, and the lake doesn’t help.

If you’re going anyway, yeah, take the gear along. Beats not fishing, and with the cool wet Spring, it’s probably holding its stockers better than most years. It probably has wild fish, above the lake anyway, but I didn’t turn any up the time I was there.

I am pretty familiar with Cowans Gap, and my advice to you is this: fish the lake for bass and panfish. I wouldn't worry about making it a trout trip, but that is just my opinion.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll take stuff for cricks and still water. Our campsite is close to the crick above the lake.

I thought the feeder held wild fish.

While I only had Saturday afternoon and evening where it didn't rain relentlessly I was able to move some fish on the stretch above the lake. I couldn't seem to stick any but they were rising to something coming off the stream. My eyesight is currently out of whack due to scar tissue forming from a past cataract surgery. However my black wooly bugger was moving them in the cloudy slightly off water from the runoff coming from the campgrounds.

Overall it's not a bad little creek to fish. I didn't get down through the stretch below the lake but I did find some walk-in parking close by for a stretch of the West Branch of the Conococheauge. so there's that.
