Dear board,

You gotta love the contrasting styles of the people in these fishing pictures taken by a FB friend on the Tully! Courtesy of Michael Sheely of Lancaster PA.

Their “waders” didn’t cost $200-300, plus I’ll bet they didn't have to add to that by sending them back for repairs, and they’re breathable and dry on the line. If you don’t know what “dry on the line” means, you really need to get out of the city and suburbs.

I believe the Amish NEVER want their photos taken. These may be Mennonite girls.
Dear 6x,

They are members of one of the "plain" sects, of which there are many. He had another picture of them riding electric scooters.

Tim Murphy 🙂

Dear Mike,

An added plus is their waders got "warshed" while feeshin" 😉

They also saved at least double that by not fly fishing or bothering with fancy vests, packs or other accouterments... 😉

I recall a scene at a farm while we were travelling along Route 44 in Nippenose (?) Valley. We saw a barefoot girl (~ 10 years old) pulling a little plow through the farm's "kitchen garden" and her slightly older sister was guiding the plow through the rows. Now I'm wondering if they went fishing afterwards to wash the garden soil off their dresses. (It was some time ago, so I only recall light colors. I don't remember if the fabric had a pattern.) 🙂

Those fabrics could easily have come off of the same bolts that Howler Bros is cutting their fishing shirts from.

Last Sunday there were a bunch of plain Mennonites kayaking on Penns. They didn't seem to happy to be out in the rain. It wasn't exactly warm.

Taking those photos and posting them on the internet seems inappropriate.

It's an invasion of privacy.

Dear troutbert,

It's not, they were in a public park open to all. There is no public privacy in a park. Photography is still 100% legal, for now.

Here are the Cliff Notes, you can read more in the link below.

Photography in Public Spaces

  1. Public Spaces Defined: Public spaces generally include streets, parks, and public plazas. In these areas, people can take photographs without needing permission.
  2. Expectation of Privacy: The key factor is the expectation of privacy. In public spaces, where there is typically no reasonable expectation of privacy, photography is usually permitted.
  3. Limitations and Exceptions: Restrictions can apply in certain circumstances. For instance, photographing in a manner that constitutes harassment, violates local laws, or hampers public safety may be restricted. However, the mere presence of a camera is unlikely to constitute objective harassment.

I didn't say or suggest that it was illegal.
Dear troubert,

No, you said it was an invasion of privacy, and that is something that simply doesn't exist in a public park, especially where photography is concerned.

It's the law! So, mind yer P's and Q's!

Tim Murphy 🙂

What happened to simple respect, guided by decency and not the law....

I for one would never take a photo of an Amish person for the same reason I wouldn't disrespect a Catholic on Easter or a Jew on Yom Kippur...

What the "F" has happened to society... 😡

Dear Bamboozle,

They're not Amish. The man who took the pictures has lived in Lancaster County for over 70 years and he knows what he is doing quite well.

Nice rant though!

Blah blah respect… The closure of Penns coldwater refuge stretches below Swift and Panther back in Summer 2016 weren’t needed because the “English” were down there pitchforking trout into buckets. Just sayin
