Laurel Run -- a cool but acidic tributary of Meadow Run -- is located right above the "cascades" section on Meadow.

I recently noticed it is flowing milky white, not slightly but significantly colored, almost opaque.

Is the stream being treated via alkali sand or something? Or is this some form of detergent pollution?

The water runs significantly cooler and the run seems to have significant output considering the lack of rain we've been experiencing. It would be a great asset to the health and holdover potential of Meadow Run trout if Laurel Run was being treated.

Thanks

Thanks acristickid,

I'm wondering if "passive" treatment would cause coloration like that? I'm going to email SRI.

The treatment of Laurel is operated by Ohiopyle State Park. If you suspect soemthing else is going on, give them a call, 724 329 8591 is the park office number.

Thanks Eric,

I called and the woman explained it is indeed being treated with lime. That explains it. A good thing...
