Your indicator fly might as well work as more than a bobber - join a 5X looped tippet to the rear of this Dry and attach a #18 Pheasant Tail or Chiro pupa for fun - betcha catch feesh on both! Use whatever colors/sizes you want - but try the loop tail and you’ll never have to tie that clinch knot to the bend of your barbless hook 😬

Very creative! Are you sure it will hold?

Sorry, I should have clarified earlier - Yes - I’m using 12/0 nanosilk and you have to double the loop tippet back on itself, you can also put a tiny drop of cyo glue on it if you want - I always attach at least one “X” size down for the dropper - in this case a 5X or 6X will be fine - I draw the line at a #14 dry as being the smallest indicator fly for me and never drop anything larger than a #18 for the trailer. Photos show the technique and strength - a 4X loop to a 3x dropper (two sizes heavier than my recommended dropper) lifting a Regal vise base - if you

mono loops at the hook bend have been around for quite a while. good for attaching a dropper fly

Yup - I’m not laying claim to it - I did have a catalog shot in my “pro” days - I’m just sharing for those who may not know

Great Idea. I like that hook box too. Is that just a plano with the labels on the back of it?

The boxes are a cheap Plano knockoff that I found at JoAnn or Hobby Lobby and they’re stackable too! I added some magnet stickers (and/or disks) in the base of each compartment - I glued them in with super glue works very well!

I just learned something else I never knew before... 😀

About 10+ years ago I found an EWC on a tree branch and popped it in my Richardson Box. It's still in there to this day and I've caught more than a couple of fish on it over the years.

It also has a mono loop on the back and I never knew why it was there...

Until now. 😉

Thanks guys!!

I have also seen mono loops of stiff mono used on saltwater flies to support a tail (like crosscut rabbit) to help prevent wrapping the hook. Unsure how effective it is.

Thanks for the info. I actually did something similar with my dubbing recently. I got sick of rummaging through the half dozen plastic shoe box totes I had filled with dubbing cards standing on edge so I bought bead boxes that had 18 compartments. drilled a 3/8" hole in the lid in the center of each compartment and then labeled them with my label maker. Soooo much nicer. Quick question on the boxes you're using if you don't mind - does each compartment have rounded corners on the bottom so that you can reach your finger in there and slide one up the side?

Yes, there is a nice curve in every compartment for pulling hooks out with ease - I also use Folgers coffee cans for yarn dispensers as seen here cut an “X” in the lid and pull the yarn from the can as needed

It's very effective at preventing fouling when using a very stiff, or "hard", mono. I've multiple large segmented streamers and other saltwater flies I use when fishing for pacific albacore or dredging for rockfish and lingcod off the WA and OR coasts. Seldom get tangled.

The trick is to not go overboard on the stiffness or the length.
