Going to tie up a box of panfish flies. Pattern and size suggestions please. I know it doesn’t really matter but all my trout nymphs are too small. Will be used in rivers and lakes. TIA.

Dear skiltonian,

Trout nymphs in bigger sizes work great for panfish. Hare's Ears, Prince nymphs, and soft hackle wets in sizes 8 to 12 work for panfish. Tie some with and w/o bead heads. Wooly buggers or even wooly worms in those sizes work great too.

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

I have no doubt these would be great for sunnies but I can think of a thousand flies that take 20 minutes less to tie that would be just as effective. And a squirmy wormy ain't one of them.
I didn't see where I had to tie them. If that's the case, foam spider or ant.

I like this fly as well, yes a stupid little fly but don't knock it until you try it.
Yup! Mine were done with synthetic fibers instead of bucktail - but the effect is the same and the feesh LOVE ‘em!
