Recent Rain

Jeez. Boo hoo. Your dry fly fishing hasn't been great this year due to the rain. Life goes on. We were experiencing a severe drought in Pennsylvania and we still are in Berks County where I live even after all this rain.

There were wildfires a few miles from my house in the fall. I was worried about my well drying up. The recent rain has helped and I am not as worried anymore. It's nice not having to worry that the woods behind my house could burn down. The rain has been much needed in Pennsylvania. But.... the Green Drake hatch might be a bust this year. Boy this rain sucks

All I have to say is I hope no one here experiences what I experienced with a wildfire so close to home. Nothing else matters in life when you think there is a chance your house may go up in flames. I don't think fishing and the possibility of losing your house to fire is comparable. But what the hell do I know. Carry on.

I experienced this in the fall on the Blue Mountain fire. Not once did I feel the need to come on a fly fishing forum and yell at the sky and wave my fist, because someone is mad at the hatches being wiped out. You also made a decision to live near the woods, just like I chose to live under five 75 foot oak trees that could fall on my house and wipe my family out. If you live in fear of the things that may happen to you, you are not living. Go outside and touch some grass.

The areas where people are complaining about rain are no where near you in Berks Co. Yes, SEPA needs rain. Yes, it sucks that Penns and several other larger wild trout streams have been pretty much unfishable for the past 3 weeks of prime hatch season.

Rain right now is doing little to nothing for your future wildfire risk.

What the **** are you talking about? Having a fire close to your house is not living in fear. It is called reality. A little different than worrying about a tree that "could" fall on your house.

I couldn't have said it better. With this newest predicted rain (Wed/Thurs), I think we'll have good mountain freestone conditions even into early July.

I've enjoyed the rain for the most part. Sucks to not be fishing on the bigger streams, but the other lesser known waters have fished well. Hoping for a good June in PA!

Water temps should not be a concern anywhere in early June this year - barring some insane heat wave - which does not appear to be in the cards

Penns seems to drop slower than just about any other water in central PA

This May has certainly been rough for hitting the hatches but those hatches come in good numbers almost every year. This year, high water levels now improve our chances greatly of having fishable water temps for the 17 year cicada in Central PA.

I'm not sure why we're talking about it but wildfire season in PA is wrapping up. Summer/fall fires can be made worse, not lessened, by a wet spring.

Rain or sun, high or low, I’ll be fishing Penns and maybe fishing creek next Wednesday to Saturday.. I’ll adapt to fishing banks and edges. You don’t need to be in the middle of the creek to catch the trout. I’m looking forward to it either way.

Showers aren’t going to move the water a whole lot. Wednesday looks like the only day where we’ll get steady rain. The other days aren’t terrible.

With an inch plus of additional rain for Wed and whatever else comes Thurs, that's all it'll take to put many streams back up to high levels. It'll be great for June fishing though, just need some warmer temps!

This maybe news for some people, but I'm 100% sure nothing we say here will have any impact on the weather. It is what it is and there ain't nothing any of us can do anything about it. No need to make the weather personal, start name calling or make an argument.

That being said, personally I think this rain has to stop. This thread is for people that don't like rain. We probably have another thread for the crazy people want more rain.

The last 60 days has been above average for most of the state.
Don't even tell me, "but we need rain", take that to another thread. ​

I like rain. In a couple weeks when I go to NC PA, I won't like rain... It's a seasonal like/not like situation for me. 😉
