Recent Rain

Count it a blessing. Last night my oldest finished off his senior season, taking a loss in the district championship game. Seeing the hurt in his face, not because of the loss, but knowing it was his last time probably playing the game he loved was heartbreaking. Cherish those times, because I would give up all the fishing in the world, to continue watching him play the game he loved. Goes too quick.
H.S. players can continue to play through Legion baseball and in other local leagues.

You’re obviously right. Both my sons play baseball but the youngest (age 9) is the one who enjoys it the most. He loves to practice and play games. The oldest (age 11), on the other hand, has had a change in attitude this spring and not for the better. He is more into looking the part than actually putting in the work to be a good teammate. Obviously things could change, but this might be the final spring where both boys play baseball.

The older might be more suited to focusing on academic activities — my wife thinks he might be interested in the school robotics program.

Yep, very versed in it. I help coach Connie Mac. We don't have enough kids for a Legion Team and the closest team to us is full for the season.

It's a shame but the days of hometown legion/twilight teams is over. The Lancaster paper did a feature on this a few years back.

I hope the oldest finds something he loves to do and puts his heart into it. Both my boys play baseball and wrestle. When my youngest graduates in 2 years, I won't know what to do with myself.

O yeah, thats right, I decided to have a daughter 2 years ago. 🤦‍♂️🤦

Yeah, we can’t even field a Connie Mac team, because the JV kids got butthurt last year when they didn’t get enough playing time during the summer season due to the older kids. Luckily a neighboring team reached out about my youngest and welcomed him on the team. It really is sad. Kids just not into it over the summer.

My oldest son used to be interested in fishing (although he thinks FF is not “real fishing”), so I am hoping he will get the interest again as he gets older. My other hobby is playing golf and he has told me in no uncertain terms that he has zero interest in playing golf, although my wife thinks that will eventually be his go-to sport.

Funny, both my boys picked up golf last summer. We have a nice course local that allows you to pay your age with cart during the week. Thank god they both work, because they played a ton. Youngest fly fishes and literally fishes every single day.

When it's over its a bigger bummer. My oldest played football>hockey>baseball from age 8 to 18. My youngest ran cross country, winter track, and spring track. Both mixed in youth league basketball as well (which I coached). When they graduated 5 years ago I found myself with more free time than I could imagine, good for my fishing and good for activities with the wife. We still miss hockey, that was our favorite to watch. He has resumed playing beer league, there is sports after graduation.

With all of the rain we've been getting in May, which was really needed, the mountain freestones haven't had a chance to warm up very much at all. Air temps have been below average for much of May. IMO, stream temps are at least as important as stream levels/flows. Bring on the heat!

Guess we both want warmer weather, but for different reasons
You want it to warm up the small streams
I want it to get the cicadas going

I'll be "forced" into FF-ing at the lakes if this rain keeps up!!

I did go a few days ago, (lake) but the wind prevented me from getting out just another ten yards. I watched Mayflies surface...the float.....then CHOMP. Not all got it before taking flight.....but the darn wind wouldn't let me cast that far.

Been a lot of windy days this year, along with all the rain

Potentially very heavy rain expected in the Philly/Lehigh Valley tonight. They're talking 1"-3" possible. I hope this is the last of it for a while! Tornado "watch" is in effect as well.

I have two Lehigh Trips this weekend. One early tomorrow. Dreading waking up and it’s chocolate milk.

1.5in plus for Pike County area with local heavier amounts. Streams are just now in nice shape flow wise. I have a carpenter doing work on my NJ house in Warren County. New slider and some windows and Cedar siding work. His scheduling has been upended due to weather. Looks like the Upper D is going to get hit again also.

Dear Board,

My brother is in from Colorado since last Saturday. We snuck in a guided float on Sunday, but it wasn't on the Susquehanna or Juniata as originally planned. That didn't matter, we floated a tributary and did fantastic. We hit a couple of local lakes and fished for bass and panfish during the week, except for Wednesday. We had fun doing that too.

Today our guide told us he won't take us out tomorrow as planned, anywhere. I respect that totally. He's great to fish with. He has as much fun netting fish for us as we do catching them. We'll exercise option plan B and get two October trips in this year instead of our usual one, weather permitting of course! 😉

Regards,

Tim Murphy 🙂

I am loving this rain. It's not really supposed to rain today in my region, but it must have put quite a bit down overnight. My local big crick jumped up pretty high in CFS again. It looks like it's a day for exploring small cricks.
