I’m gonna be staying in satellite beach florida from June 8th till 14th. Anyone fly fish this area fresh or salt? Looking for places to fish on foot and wading. I’ll be taking a 6 and 7 weight with clousers and Murdich minnows and some poppers. Any help would be greatly appreciated cause I’ve never been there

I waded the banana river up by cocoa beach. Bait, dolphins, and manatee all around. Caught 7 specks and 2 salt water catfish. All on #4 chartreuse over white clouser. Gonna try same flat tomorrow at first light. Also hit a local pond and caught some 2 and 3 pound largemouths and a tropical fish that was red and black with a peacock spot on its tail. Some kind of sciclid probably. Those were caught on a Murdich minor. Hard to find ponds that aren’t posted down here.

I have always wanted to try flats fly fishing for specks and redfish. It wasn’t really a thing on the Outer Banks sound side when I lived down that way in the 1980s.
Looking forward to tomorrow’s report, good luck.

Down at Sebastian Inlet, you can walk the mangroves / wade back to sandy flats around Little Grace Island. I didn't get any fish there and there's a ton of foot and boat traffic, but the access is pretty easy and it looks like it would be good if you could hit it when it wasn't mobbed.

Went to the same flat in banana river at first light. Bait everywhere again and no signs of dolphins scaring the fish. I fished from 6:30 to 9:30 and caught 53 specks and 2 salt water catfish. I fished a #2 pink over white clouser and by the end of the trip it only had about 20 strands of pink bucktail and 4 strands of white and crystal flash. All the paint on the eyes was completely gone. They apparently like to customize your clousers down here! The sparser it got the harder they hit it. No big ones over 15 inches but lots of fun on a five weight. With nowhere to dive on the shallow flat quite a few of them jumped like freshwater trout. That’s the most salt water fish I have ever caught on a wading trip! Something to think about on the 15 hour drive back to PA tomorrow.

Went back this morning to fish the same flat and saw a 10 foot gator sitting in the same spot I was wading yesterday. I slowly backed my way to the shoreline and went back and cooked breakfast.

Rethinking my last post about wanting to try flats fly fishing. 😄
