The Oros Problem

They are $3 freaking dollars a piece. How many of these things are you guys losing that it is a financial burden? My Cup of regular drip coffee this morning was $3. Hell, I still have some of the original translucent Thingamabobbers.

Heaven forbid you lose a couple flies each outing.

Oros could cost double what they do and they would still be worth it.

Look at Richey Rich over here with his expensive coffee and indicators 🤣

Yeah, no doubt in the grand scheme of things the 3 dollars is nothing. As I said above, I usually use dorsey style yarn indicators that I probably get 20 of for 3 dollars worth of material and bands so relative to that they are expensive.

I'm the same way with flies....I tie my own so I don't think about money when I lose one, but if I did lose ones that I spend 3 or more dollars on I would probably have a stroke. I lost 2 of Albatross' streamers he graciously let me use when we floated at the jam, I probably owe him 20 bucks.

just ordered some oros strike indicators along with the airlock centerlocks. Probably the only style of indicator I haven't tried yet. Gotta agree with PennKev tho, I'd pay $10 an indicator if it meant never having it slip, tangle, get waterlogged, etc.

I agree. the price of the Oros isn't bad, and I rarely lose them. I have lost two since I have started using them, so I still have 4 x-small, 12 smalls, and 3 mediums. I will buy another 6 pack of x-smalls, and that should keep me covered for the next several years worth of fishing.

So yes, in the grand scheme of things, they are not expensive, but when I look at a tiny foam ball with a threaded piece of plastic inserted that is made in China, $3.50 per bobber sounds pretty expensive.

You fellas who say you would pay $10 per indicator are off your rockers, though. When I read that, what I really read is that there is room for me to develop something better than the Oros and charge the customer even more. It is good to know that I can at least squeeze $7 or $8 per bobber out of some you guys.

We're all a little off our rockers aren't we? Honestly anything that 1) increases the amount of time my flies are in the water and 2) is easily adjusted is worth it in my opinion. The amount of time I spend messing with tubes or loops or drying yarn out.. so to answer your questions, yes Sir, I'd pay even more if you came up with something better.

I'm on it! (but honestly, I can't think of any ways to improve the Oros!)
