FF World Championships

Competition has no place in outdoor sports. I was disgusted to see the behavior of fisherman in the bass tournaments, then it was all the big buck contests and all the shortcuts and technology and cheating, poaching used to score.

Now it seems fly fishing is going down the same road. Give it a rest man, go out and fish for the pure enjoyment of it instead of bragging rights.
Lmao Competitive fly fishing has been around for 30 years and you barely hear bleep in it. Make sure you don’t use any of the techniques, products, flies that were created for it or by the competitors so succeed in it.

I don't pay much, actually any, attention to competition fly fishing but a post with this graphic popped up.

It can't be very often that a 30 incher is caught in competition. Lake caught, I wonder?
Wow this devolved fast. To answer OP that was a pike. They are counting fish species other than trout also at this WC. Grayling and chub species as well as pike count AFAIK.

If these competitors are so good, why do they need to stock fish for them?

Wait they are stocking over native chub and grayling?

I never fish during a rain event, ever. I'll live with my lack of control.
I'm just curious as to why?
I always enjoyed fishing in the rain but I know it's not for everyone either. My next suggestion was going to be to crash a fly fishing competition, in the rain, with a dog and take total control 😉

I'm just curious about what techniques have come about in the last 30 years from competitive fly fishing that have enhanced the sport.
Be specific if you can.
What makes them special?

They stock it to help make the beats even. This rarely happens and usually only for world competitions, due to the amount of sections or rivers needed to have a fair competition. Needing 30 + beats that are fair for everyone is not easy, so I am guessing they supplement.
