FF World Championships

I don't have much opinion about competitive fly fishing. However, I had a guide in Colorado who was on the USA FF team, and that guy could flat out fish. His game was correct. He taught me a lot that day.
One of these guys; Cody Burgdorff, Chris Galvin, Rob Kolanda, Michael Yelton?

And here I was under the impression everyone was out fishing Penns. Drakes and Cicadas and all. (They’re probably eating Sulphur emergers though.)
There is a competition, so we have to wait for the stockers to be ripped out but I'm sure the experts got in honed in and will tell us what they were taking.

While we're on the subject of the FF competitions, why does the US typically dominate the youth circuit only to get our asses handed to us by either Poland, Czech Republic, France or Spain in the adult competition? I'd have way more respect for these "fishy dudes" if they could actually bring gold home once in a while.

They just beat the Czechs on their home turf....nobody would have made that bet even 2 days into this tournament.

Next year is in Idaho, they have to take advantage if they want to make a name for themselves among the better teams.

A quote from the incomparable Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights comes to mind...

I have to imagine that our youth are superbly trained due to the vast number of youth fishing derbies here in the states.

Nothing prepares you for catching stocked trout in a competition, like trying to make sure you catch more fish than Billy and Bobby at the sportsman club derby.

I’m not sure why that doesn’t translate well to adult competition, but I have seen many adults waiting around to fish after the kids derbies, perhaps they should be asked to join the team.

Well one reason is that fellow Yinzer and excellent all around fly fisher dude Josh Miller is the youth coach. When you are coached by someone like Josh you are going to excel.

Having also been a high level competitor (another hobby) in my youth and going to the WC level, I can say that it is not uncommon for youth teams vs adult teams to not be at the same level in the results for countries that send both.

I few more years of Mentored Youth Day should make a difference.

I may regret asking this but will stocking be part of preparations for the competition in Idaho?

The women's championship this year in Wyoming/Montana/Idaho has no mention of stocking for the event like the men's in the Czech Republic does.

Again, no agenda here, just curious.

I don't know the answer to that. My guess is that it depends on the venue.
