The problem may be that people who like to think they are outdoorsy but really only go to football games buy Patagonia and LL Bean jackets, not Orvis. I suspect they don't have the following outside of their core areas to warrant such extensive product lines.
This is the root of their problem IMO. Their everyday clothing and "lifestyle" items have always struck me as an attempt to make money off off the wives and families of rich anglers and bird hunters than a real attempt at grabbing real market share in a crowded category.
